It is no surprise that Cameroon is the host of the 33rd African Cup of Nations (AFCON). However, the AFCON 2021 opening ceremony organized by the West African country left many astounded. The ceremony was filled with colorful displays of culture.

The TotalEnergiesAFCON 2021 which was to hold in 2021 was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will hold from January 9 to February 2, 2022. The competition will feature 24 teams representing different African countries. A total of 52 games will be played across six different venues in five Cameroonian cities.

The tournament drew the attention of many international sponsors. Total Plc, the French oil giant, is the official title sponsor of the AFCON 2021 tournament, hence the name TotalEnergiesAFCON 2021.  Interestingly, Tiktok has joined the list of sponsors for the tournament. The social media company announced the news on their website, highlighting the 48.3 million views that the #AfricanFootball has garnered on the continent.

Binance, a cryptocurrency exchange platform is also a sponsor of the competition. Binance will be rewarding the Assist of the Day, Binance Assist of the Week and Binance Assist of the Tournament.

Speaking on this development, Veron Mosengo-Omba, CAF’s General Secretary said, “I am delighted to welcome Binance as an official sponsor of the AFCON tournament this year. Through this partnership with CAF, Binance will connect further with its users and the African community through football. CAF is ready to embrace blockchain-based technology and its impact on the future of African football development. I am certain that together with Binance, we can take African football to a new level.”
